How Much Are You Worth?

How does something become rare? WHY are some people willing to pay astronomical prices for things? Can you imagine paying more for a bottle of nail polish than you would a house? What about paying more for dinner than most people do on a car? What compels people to do this?

How Do We Value Ourselves?

I recently read some postings that shocked and saddened me. Words written by people who saw absolutely no value in themselves - to the point of self-loathing. At first I couldn't understand how anyone could view themselves this way. Then I remembered, it wasn't so long ago when I didn't place much value on myself either.

Believing the Lie

From the time I was child, through my teens, and into adulthood, I spent most of those years wishing I were someone else. As one of the few (chubby) English kids in a French neighborhood, I was never accepted, I never seemed to fit in anywhere. I continued to struggle through high school - not smart enough to hang out with the brainiacs and certainly not pretty enough to hang out with cool ones. My self-image did not start to improve until I began working and discovered I did, in fact, have skills. Then, simply because of a minor ankle sprain that turned in to a full-body nightmare, I lost my ability to work. Once again, I felt like my value had been taken away from me. I was believing all the lies instead of the Truth!

I'm not telling you this to gain your pity. My journey has made me who I am today and I am grateful for that. I also know many of you have much worse stories to tell. What I am asking you to do is consider what would happen if you looked at yourself through a different lens?

How God Sees Us

Have you ever stopped to consider just how rare and valuable you are? You are more precious than any diamond, more valuable than any sum of money! You don't believe me? Consider this:
  • There is no one in the entire universe just like you!
  • You are the rarest of gems because you are absolutely unique, right down to your DNA!
  • You have the ability to impact the lives of others in a way no one else in the world can!
  • By the world's standards, you are priceless!
  • By God's Standards, you are crowned with glory and honor, loved by the Father Who created you.

What Does Your Picture Look Like... really?

How we feel about ourselves affects the choices we make. Because I saw myself as an ugly garbage dump instead of a rare gem, I didn't think I deserved better. Since my injury, I have had lots of time to spend with God. I am finally beginning to see myself through His Eyes.

Every day, hour by hour, minute by minute, we are writing our stories. Every choice leads us to a different chapter. I pray that it won't take you as long as it has taken me to figure out how to get to a place where you can look in the mirror and love the person looking back at you. A one-of-a-kind creation, made by the same Hand that created all the stars in the heavens. I would say that makes you pretty darn special.
